Attorneys Serving Northern Virginia

While you can go about trying to resolve legal matters on your own, it is not advisable, as it can lead to errors and omissions that can cost you dearly in terms of your finances or the quality of your life. As President Abraham Lincoln said, "He who represents himself has a fool for a client." Whether a matter of family law, business law, civil litigation, real estate law, wills, trusts and estates, traffic violations or federal and state criminal defense, one of our lawyers will fight for your rights. There is no substitute for the extensive legal knowledge and skill achieved by experience in the practice of law. At Morrison, Ross and Whelan, we have more than 100 years of combined experience and are dedicated to finding creative solutions to the issues you face.

What should I do if an insurance company has offered me a settlement?

You should always consult with an attorney before accepting a settlement offer. In almost every case, the initial offer will be far from the amount to which you are entitled. Insurance companies are in the business of protecting their assets and are not acting out of concern for your well-being. When you have a legal professional representing you, you have someone looking out for your best interests who can demand you be treated justly. Research shows that those people represented by counsel receive more money even after their lawyer is paid compared to those that negotiate by themselves — usually substantially more.

What should I do if I have been charged with a crime?

If you have been charged with or even accused of a crime, it is imperative you speak to an attorney right away. Do not discuss your case with law enforcement officials, as you may unwittingly make statements that can be used against you, even if you are actually innocent. Exercise your right to remain silent and contact an attorney for advice on how best to proceed, given your particular circumstances.
