Chris Whelan has over twenty years experience litigating all types of civil and criminal matters. As a former Army JAG defense counsel and Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, he has both prosecuted and defended the most serious felony cases with outstanding results. Chris' current practice focuses on a wide range of civil litigation in state and federal courts, including commercial litigation, estate/fiduciary litigation, real estate litigation, construction litigation, as well as serious personal injury cases. He also continues to handle serious felony cases. Chris is known for his meticulous attention to detail, thorough case preparation and outstanding execution in the courtroom. He is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and served as President of the Fauquier Bar Association in 2004.   • Obtained $1,000,000 settlement in medical malpractice case against retinal surgeon in connection with a failed retinal detachment surgery
  • Co-counsel in defending first degree murder case resulting in two manslaughter convictions and the reversal of one conviction on appeal

  • Obtained $750,000 settlement for client who suffered traumatic brain injury in high speed construction zone accident
  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of lender charged with violation of the Federal Truth in Lending Act

  • Won substantial judgment against design professional for fraud in the inducement

  • Represented builder in malicious prosecution case involving builder’s former clients resulting in significant plaintiff’s verdict
